Buyer Beware - Changes to Home Owners Warranty Laws

In January 2015, a number of changes were made to the Home Building laws which buyers need to be aware of when purchasing a property.

The full report can be obtained from http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/About_us/Legislation/Changes_to_legislation/Major_changes_to_home_building_laws.page, however one important change is that Owner-builders who sell properties built under owner-builder permits are no longer required to provide insurance to a subsequent purchaser.

This change makes it even more important for buyers, and their acting solicitor to ensure due diligence is completed to inspect a property prior to bidding at auction or the completion of a cooling off period.
